A child’s room is his fortress! This means that for a kid the room he lives in is the safest place in the world, and our task as adults is to ensure the kid that this is actually the truth. For the little ones, there might be an infinite number of new worlds in which wonderful adventures come to life.

So what is our job as adults? How can we help them feel safe but at the same time happy?

First, let’s think of what we needed when we were little – an environment that gives harmony and positivity. So let’s try to focus on giving this to our kids as well. Here is where colors come to help us!

Psychological studies, first conducted by advertising companies, suggest that colors can influence mood and behavior, stimulate the brain and body, and even affect your little one’s health. Marketing experts have been using these findings to their advantage for many years. The décor at your gym, your day spa, and even your favorite restaurant have been specially designed to affect everything from your attitude to your appetite.

But color psychology can be used to affect more than just your wallet. Scientific studies have also found that exposure to certain colors can improve sleep habits, increase memory power and even enhance academic performance—excellent benefits for growing minds and bodies.

 

The most used in children’s bedrooms we find to be blue (15.6%) and green (10.4%). These shades recall serenity, joy, and liveliness respectively. Emotional combinations that encourage children to express themselves and give freedom to their imagination. Colors are deeply linked to each child’s identity and culture. They have the ability to activate emotions and sensations that help to stimulate the personality of the individual. For this reason, it is essential that they are chosen and used correctly.

Second, but more important is to ensure that the environment is healthy. They don’t spend time in their rooms just to sleep in at night, but often stay playing for long hours. It is therefore advisable not to underestimate indoor pollution. It is caused by glues, paints, coatings and furnishing components that release invisible gases, particles, and harmful substances.

Useful tips against indoor pollution

1. Open the windows at least 2 times a day – this prevents the accumulation of stale and stale air in the room.

2. Use formaldehyde-free paints and finishing materials. It is a harmful gas that disperses into the environment and contaminates it

3. Use ecological detergents to clean the room. Those usually used often contain acetone and benzene. Also, avoid using room deodorants or incense, which are often enriched with chemical additives. Flowers of lavender, cinnamon, citrus fruits, and cloves are the ideal natural alternatives to perfume the rooms of children.

5. Wash carpets, curtains and sheets regularly. Adjust the temperature between 18° and 22° and reduce the humidity.

Additional tip: Did you know that if you want to clean perfectly the carpet from dust, you just need to turn it with the top part towards the ground and walk on it (or leave your kid play) for few days so that all the dust will fall on the ground and then you can collect it with vacuum cleaner.
